I find quickbooks baffling. Why can't it stick with the company name and category that I used for a particular transaction for the past 5 months? Gosh, its unbelievable how bad QuickBooks is. So I'm always haven't to verify - sometimes it gets i right other times its way off. The transaction details are the same every month. Makes no sense!

Good morning johnlarsen!

Thank you for joining the Community. Just to clarify, so I can assist you better, are you saying that you have a recurring transaction set up and the company name and category change unexpectedly? Knowing this will be very helpful. Looking forward to your response. Take care for now!

I see this a lot on the online QuickBooks. From what I remember quicken was a lot smarter even moneydance which I still use for my personal books. If I selected a category for a particular transaction it was always the same going forward. not with QuickBooks online. I have to constantly verify incoming transactions. It will work for a couple of months and then stop. It's intermittent, not always the same payee that this happens with.

Hello, johnlarsen.

I'm here to help you sort things out for you. In this scenario, It's possible this might be caused by a corrupted file cache stored in your browser, that's why you're unable to select the particular category with QBO.

We can do some troubleshooting steps to rule this out. Let's open your QuickBooks Online account in an incognito or private browser. This mode will not save your browsing history and will also help isolate any web issues.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Shift

If it works fine, you can go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Clearing cache fixes certain problems, like loading or formatting issues on sites. It also helps pages to load faster. Please make sure to restart your browser afterwards.

You can also use a different supported browser as an alternate solution.

Additionally, I've also included this reference for a compilation of articles you can use while working with us: Help Articles for QuickBooks Online.

Get back to me here in the Community if you need further help. I'll be here to go extra miles to help you out. Take care and happy 4th of July.
