Category Reconciled account

I found a payment  that went to the wrong account(Category) a few months after the  correct account account was reconciled ex:  a credit card payment  went to cost of good sold instead of the credit card account. I found this error a few months after both bank account  and credit card accounts were reconciled. If I change the posting account -cost of goods sold to the correct account- credit card- will it effect my bank account and or my cost of goods sold account? Any suggestions on the best way to correct this?

Good day, TT38.

I'm here to offer some help on how to correct accounts that were already reconciled in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Since you already found the error, you'll want to review each transaction on the discrepancy report one at a time.

Here's how:

  1. Select View to see the history of changes to the transaction.
  2. Review the Change Type column. This tells you what changed.
  3. Make edits based on the message in the Change Type column:

Before doing so, I suggest you get support from an accounting professional. They can provide expert advice on how to handle this type of situation and ensure your books are accurate.
