Question

Changing a transaction asks for a password and I only have 1 password for QB and that doesn't work. How do I change this reconciled transaction?

Good to see you here, kurtrob-sbcgloba.

I can share which password you'll use when editing a reconciled transaction.

Closing your books prevent changes to past transactions. It's possible that a user or your accountant has this option turned on to ensure everything stays the way it is. It also prevents any accidental changes that could affect your financial reports. We can confirm if they have it activated by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and click Account and settings.
  2. From the left menu, click Advanced.
  3. Select the Accounting section and you'll see if the Close the books option is turned on.

If it's turned on, I'd suggest reaching out to your accountant or bookkeeper before editing the reconciled transactions and then ask them the password if it's okay to change those transactions.
