Question

Charges on one of my credit card accounts don't show up in Profit and Loss Reports. Did I inadvertently make this account inactive? How do I determine this?

Great to see you here in the Community forum, @fchowlett. Let me assist you in identifying the reason why your credit card charges aren't appearing in the Profit and Loss report.

In QuickBooks Online, credit card charges will show up in the Profit and Loss report if under the expense category you assign to them. Once you categorize a credit card charge as an expense, it will impact your profit and loss statement accordingly.

That said, we can check the transaction if you categorize them as an expense category. Additionally, it's important to verify the dates and accounting method since the Profit and Loss report will be generated based on the method you've selected. You can find more information in this article: Differentiate Cash and Accrual basis.

Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Navigate to the Reports tab.
  3. Select Profit and Loss from the list of reports.
  4. Customize the report by selecting the appropriate date range and accounting method.
  5. Look for the specific credit card charge in the report. It should be listed under the expense category you assigned to it.

Also, to ensure that an expense is correctly categorized, you can head over to the Transactions tab. Once there, you can locate the credit card charge in question and edit its category accordingly.
