Does exporting from Quickbooks Online to Desktop remove data from Online?

Hello,

We're wanting to try out QB Desktop. However, my employer has requested that for three months, we run Desktop and Online simultaneously to make sure they both do everything we need them to. All of our data is currently in QB Online. If I export it to QB Desktop and start running them side by side, will the data vanish from QB Online? It's very important that we don't lose all of that.

Helping you export your data to QuickBooks Desktop is my priority, EthanDale. I'm here to clear out some confusion before performing the process.

Once you export your file to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), the QuickBooks Online (QBO) data will remain in the program. This way, you can compare and check if your records match.

When you're ready to move your data, I'd suggest checking out this article for the step-by-step process: Export and Convert your QuickBooks Online File to QuickBooks Desktop.

After the file is transferred successfully, I'd suggest pulling up the Profit and Loss report in QBDT and QBO. This helps you verify if all the transactions were imported or not. Then, you can manually enter those missing ones to keep your records balanced.

If you've decided to close your QBO account after three (3) months, I'd recommend following the steps in this article: Cancel your QuickBooks Online Subscription.

I'm only a few clicks away if you need assistance exporting your file, EthanDale. It's always my pleasure to help you out again.

@EthanDale

Do you need to migrate data from QB Online US version to QB Desktop US version? Once the data is migrated, you can still use your QB Online account until you cancel it. Unfortunately, they only provide the trial version for QBD 2022 Enterprise. If you prefer to use QBD Pro/Premier, you should utilize the trial license for QBD Pro 2019-2021.
