When she logs in she gets a message that a password is required and I don't know what it would be.

It’s good to see you here and for considering the Community forum to address your concern in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @188437.

I can see the advantage of adding your accountant to your QBO file. This way, they can access your company to help you review your transactions and make corrections anytime.

Regarding your accountant requiring them to enter a password, I don’t recall a situation of them doing that when making changes. Also, you’ll want to ensure that you have invited them correctly and that they are using the QuickBooks Online Accountant version.

When inviting your accountant, they should expect the following:

The newly added user will be prompted for their user ID and a new password after accepting the invitation link. When signing into QuickBooks Online, this will be used. Please be aware that after clicking the invitation link to verify the email, a security key will be issued to that email address.

If the user accepts the link with an existing Intuit account. Then, the password should match the user ID.

Then, if the user is asked to log in without creating the credentials, the user will have to reset their password or find their user ID. Worry less. I can guide you about retrieving your credentials:

  1. Go to the QuickBooks Online sign-in page.
  2. Select I forgot my user ID or Password.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions.

A reset link will be sent to them afterward to the email address they have entered.
