There does not seem to be a way to do it. I tried clicking on the box that says, "You don't have any documents here yet. Add some files to get started." but nothing happens when I click on that box.

Welcome back to the QuickBooks Community, margecombe-sbcgl. I can provide details on how shared documents works on the My Accountant page. Then, ensure you'll be able to use it and upload files from there.

You and your accountant can utilize the Shared documents tab to manage the files you've shared with one another. You can upload a document directly to this tab or you can download a document from this page using the Download link in the Action column.

However, the upload functionality is enabled only after the respective accountant performs one of the following actions below in their QuickBooks Online Accountant portal:

  1. Accountant users should visit the "Work" tab in their QBOA portal and "Create a client request" for that client file.
  2. Accountant users visit the "Clients" tab in their QBOA portal and click on the respective client, followed by clicking on the "Shared documents" tab there.

These actions will initialize the shared folder between accountants and their clients or on your end. Once the folder is initialized, business user clients will be able to upload documents from the QBO file "My Accountant" tab.

If the issue persists, I recommend logging in to your QuickBooks account using a private browser. Then, operate the shared documents option in the My Accountant tab from there. This is to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue, and private browsing doesn't store local files or cache.

Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using:

  • For Firefox or Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

If it works in incognito, I recommend clearing the cache of your regular browser. This removes the history or log of sites so you can start with a clean slate. You can check this article to see the steps: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

If the steps above didn't work, use another supported browser as an alternative.

Lastly, I'm adding this article to further guide you in effectively managing your business using QBO: Help guide for QuickBooks Online. It contains topics about advanced accounting, banking, and payments to name a few.
