Question

How can I create an account for my wife? I got Quickbooks free from turbotax. She runs a business and could use the feature, but the account settings only lets me manage my email/password.

You'll want to sign up for a new QuickBooks Self-Employed account, oatmealr82.

 

You can only run one business per account. Create an account here: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/self-employed/.

Thanks for the reply but I’m not sure I follow. My wife is the one that runs her self employed business. The quickbooks product is already marked self-employed. We filed ‘married filing jointly’. My email is the one that is tied with TurboTax. So basically TurboTax assumed that I am the one that has the business, but it’s my spouse.

I hope you and your wife are doing fine today! I appreciate taking the time to get back here. I'll clarify my colleague's answer and give details on how to handle the accounts. 

 

If you and your wife use QuickBooks Self-Employed together, then she'll want to create a new account. Follow the steps provided by MaryLurleenM. The idea here is to enter both of your income and expenses separately. 

 

I take it that you've already enabled joint filing in TurboTax. In this case, you can send the QuickBooks Self-Employed data to TurboTax. Your wife would enter her own data to your TurboTax account. 

 

I'd recommend letting her contact the TurboTax support so they can guide her in entering her data. She can post her questions here

 

If your wife is the only one using QuickBooks Self-Employed, you can share your login credentials with her (tied with the TurboTax bundle). She doesn't have to create a new account. You have the option to change the email in QuickBooks. Since both programs are synced, this will also change the credentials in TurboTax however. 

 

If you decide to change the email address: 

 

  1. Click the Gear icon, and choose Intuit Account
  2. Go to the Sign in & Security tab.
  3. Expand the Email address section. 
  4. Enter the new email address and confirm it.
  5. Type your password, then hit Save
