Question

How can I get QB to total the columns in the Estimates & Progress Invoicing Summary by Project report? In the past the sums of the columns were included.

Thanks for sharing your concern on the QuickBooks Community page, @RHofDDG.

Before we proceed, could you please clarify how you accessed the Estimates & Progress Invoicing Summary by Project report? Upon review, the only similar report available to us is the Estimates & Progress Invoicing Summary by Customer report.

If this was the actual report you're using and simply edited its report title, it should still display the column totals. It could be that the Rows/Columns of this report may be filtered, causing the totals not to be shown. Please see the image below for your reference.

If this is the case, I'd suggest resetting the Rows/Columns to their default filter. Simply reopen the report, click Customize, go to the Rows/Columns section, and select Reset to default. Then, click Run report.

If your Rows/Columns are already in default settings and the totals aren't still showing, I'd suggest running some troubleshooting steps. Accumulated cache in your current browser might be causing the issue.

To address this, let' open your account in a private window to check if the problem is related to a cache issue. Simply press the following shortcut keys to access this mode:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox ).
  • Control + Option + P (Safari).

If it works, let's clear your browser's cache to delete temporarily stored files and free some space on your browser. You can also use other supported, up-to-date browsers to ensure thorough troubleshooting.

Additionally, you can customize reports in QuickBooks to focus on the details that matter to your business.

Please get back to this thread if you have any other concerns regarding running the Estimates & Progress Invoicing Summary by Project report in QuickBooks. I'm always here to help.

Follow up:

The report only totals the columns when selecting the option to PRINT.  It will not total the columns in the options to download or export.  At this time I am working around the issue by selecting print, then opting for PDF via the print dialog box.

Thank you for the good information.

It seems to have been a glitch, for it has remedied itself.  The report wasn't generating column totals when the report was being downloaded or exported to Excel.  About an hour later I ran the report to print and it printed with the column totals.  I've bookmarked your tips for clearing the cache if I should encounter similar issues later.  Thank you again.
