How can I create a back up of my files?  When I enter custom dates for older info (example 1998, 1999, 2000), it shows NO data.

Welcome to the Community, @balford4.

Allow me to share some information about creating a backup file of your Profit & Loss in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Backing up files in QBO depends on your subscription. If you're using QBO Advanced, you can enable the Online Backup and Restore app. After backing up, it will track any changes made to your company data.

However, while you can back up data related to your chart of accounts, there is some data you can't back up. You can check this article to learn more about what data you can and can't back up. This also includes a guide on how to create a one-time backup in QBO manually: Backup and restore your QuickBooks Online Advanced Company.

Additionally, QBO automatically saves your data to the cloud, so you don't need to worry about manual backups. However, if you want to create a personal backup, you can export your data. If you choose not to upgrade your subscription, you can export your list and save it to your computer's files or folder.

You may also want to consider using third-party applications that provide the specific features you need. These applications can be integrated with QBO, allowing you to generate the reports you require. To find such applications, you can visit this link: QuickBooks App Store.

Moreover, the Profit and Loss report should allow the entry of custom dates for older information, such as 1998, 1999, and 2000. Since you are experiencing issues, you can try signing in to your QBO account using a private browser or "incognito" mode. This can help your computer or device run more efficiently by preventing interference from extensions, plugins, or cookies. Below are the shortcut keys for these browsers:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

Just in case you need further help with managing your reports and company file in QBO, feel free to read this article for more guidance:
