How can I migrate my information from QB Self-employed to QB Online?

Today I upgraded from QB Self Employed to Online. The salesperson I chatted with recommended this. I was trying to merge/sync my QB data to my TurboTax form. She told me

1) I could do this with Online, but not SE.

2) I could upgrade to Online and import all my SE data.

3) I could then import my info to TurboTax.

Right now all I want to do is get my SE info to O so I can get moving. Currently I'm stuck.

Thanks in advance,

Matt.

Hi redheaddiesel,

QuickBooks Online Self-Employed is different from other types of QuickBooks products. There isn't a way to automatically convert the data from QuickBooks Self-Employed into another QuickBooks product.

You can download a .csv file for your transactions and import them to QuickBooks Online Simple Start, QuickBooks Online Essentials, or QuickBooks Online Plus. Please check this article for more information: https://selfemployed.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/453178.

Feel free to visit the Community if you need more help.

Have a good one!

Mike, when does Intuit think they will sync their apps?

This is stupid.  Why in the world would these two products not communicate?!

I don't want to pay all this money and spend the time entering data in the field on QB Self Employed to only have to do the same data entry when I get home.  What is going on?

The link is also blank for myself - can you provide a better link? I’m also interested in moving from SE to QBO.

Your thoughts about the product is important to us, Amanda.

This would help our Product Development Team know what are the things the needs improves to suit your needs. I'll let them know about these ideas so they can put it into consideration for future product updates.

For now, we can export your transactions from QuickBooks Self-Employed through this article:

Export Transactions and Trips to .CSV.

Then, import them to QuickBooks Online manually. You can refer to this article for the detailed steps and additional information: How To Import Bank Transactions Using Excel CSV Files.

Otherwise, you'll want to enter the transactions  one at a time.

For the existing lists, you can export and import them by following this article: Export then Import List Data into QuickBooks Online.

I'll be right here if you need anything else.

Hello, @JM8787.

I'm glad to share some information about migrating data from QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Yes, currently we don't have the direct way to automatically export data from QBSE into another QuickBooks product. If you wish to keep a record of the work you did in QBSE, you can download the Tax Details report which can be found on the Reports page.

Also, you may download your transactions directly from the Transactions tab into a .CSV file and import it into QBO. However, importing the downloaded transactions in .CSV format into QBO requires a 3rd party service. QBO only allows the direct import of Customers, Vendors, Chart of Accounts, Products and Services in .CSV format.

To know more, you can read this article: Switch to another version of QuickBooks from QuickBooks Self-Employed.

You can also check this article for your future reference about moving data from QBSE to QBO: Move from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online.

Keep posted if you have any other questions. I'm always here to help!

hi @JM8787

Utilize the trial period of a 3rd party migration tool to import your CSV into QBO.

Intuit and Quickbooks still haven't figured out how to transfer the data!  It's been a year and no progress at all!  If you plan on signing up for Quickbooks - realize that you will lose most of your data.  Good luck!

This is total BS!  Quickbooks this is an absolute shame.  I spent the whole 2019 year in Self Employed, my accountant told me that I need to upgrade to Simple Start due to growth in my business.  I found out that these two systems don't talk and now I have to re-do whole year of entries.  What a crock of SH*T.  Your engineering and management teams should be ashamed of this!  Unacceptable!

I agree its total BS, canceling 5 accounts using QBSE that I had my employees using. Cant import to QBonline or QB Desktop.

Over 4 years with so many people complaining about the same issue and absolutely nothing had been done.

ive been avoiding changing from QBSE for a year because of this, yesterday I got the subscription for a essentials package and guess what, I’m getting a refund, cancelling both QBO & QBSE

also my other 2 family businesses will cancel their QBSE, this is just a disgrace of a company really… 4 years at least and nothing changes

I’ll still have to put my data into a different software but at least I’ll put it into a software that actually cares for their customers.

but since the guys at the top are making the money why risk improving anything if they still make the money,
