Question

How can I update my address to an APO address? QB won't take AE as a state. We are military and just moved to Germany. What is the work around?

We are residents of TN but do not have a physical address there. I'm unable to update my employee information and tax setup in QB since it won't take my new address.

Hi, user48394.

Updating employee's address to an APO address is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online. The system only allows for home and work locations.

We're collating our customers' feedback and insights. I'll be sure to take note of this product feature opportunities for future enhancements.

For the time being, you can visit our blog and register for our Newsletter. This way, you’ll receive email updates about what new changes and features, and hopefully this option would be one of them.

Here's how to register to our Newsletter:

  1. On your QuickBooks Online account, click the User icon at the upper right corner and select Manage your Intuit Account.
  2. Tap Data & Privacy in the left panel.
  3. Select QuickBooks.
  4. Turn on QuickBooks Newsletter.

I'll include an article about adding, editing, or inactivating an employee for future reference.

I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you, so please let me know if you have any other issues or concerns. I'll be here to assist. Have a great rest of the day!

Thanks so much for your help. I read the article but unfortunately it doesn't apply to me. I can't add my home address since it's German and since I can't use our APO (US mailing address) I am stuck. We live off base, but even if we lived on the military base, which is considered US soil, it's still a German physical address. My company is incorporated in Virginia, where my business partner resides, but my husband and I claim Tennessee as our state of legal residence. We don't have an address in Tennessee, however. We use our APO address to file our taxes and it is recognized by the US government and the IRS. Since there are tens of thousands of military and state department dependents living and working abroad, it would definitely be helpful if QB would expand their functionality to include this sort of situation. I can't even delete my previous state's tax information in QB without an updated address. If you have any ideas for a workaround, I'd appreciate it. Thank you!

Thanks for getting back to us, @user48394.

As mentioned by my colleague above, QuickBooks Online (QBO) only allows home and work locations. The ability to update an employee's address to an APO address is not yet available.

We'll surely take note of this suggestion. Our Product Engineers are always looking for ideas to consider on how to improve QBO.

In the meantime, I recommend visiting our Blog site. This is where we share recent happenings and future developments, such as updates to newly added features. Here's the link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/blog/.

I'm also including an article that covers the steps for updating addresses in QBO: Change Company Name, Address, Email Address, EIN, and Privacy Settings.

Since you're unable to previous state tax information, you'll need to manually file them as a workaround. You can consult your accountant or accounting professional for further guidance with the process.

Reach out to me in the comment section below if you have any other issues or concerns. I'll be more than willing to help. Have a good one!
