Hello there, @wesvela.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO,) account numbers are manually entered. Let me show you how it's done.

You'll have to enable the option and manually allocate for each account in your Chart of Accounts by following the steps below.

1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Account and Settings.

2. Select the Advanced tab.

3. In the Chart of Accounts section, click the Edit (pencil) icon.

4. Check Enable account numbers and Show account numbers. (Please see screenshot below).

5. Click Save, then Done.

After that, you're now ready to allocate one to your accounts. Here's how:

1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Chart of Accounts.

2. Above the Action column, select the Edit (pencil) icon.

3. Enter the account numbers in the Number column.

4. Click Save.

I'd also encourage checking our Help articles page to learn some tips and tricks in managing your QBO account. From there, you can read great articles that can guide you through the steps by steps process.

Should you have other questions about QuickBooks features, let me know by leaving a comment. I'm just around if you need help.

My system was configured with the show account numbers and the account numbers are in the chart of accounts.  what i would like is to be able to enter the account number or at least see it for confirmation that account is correct when say entering sales receipt.

Thanks for getting back to us here, @wesvela.

I have some information about viewing the account number when recording a sales receipt. While we're unable to enter the number, you can see your bank's account number from the Deposit to drop-down.

Let me guide you how.

  1. Go to +New.
  2. Select Sales receipt under Customers.
  3. Type in the sales receipt details.
  4. Click Save and close. See the attached screenshots below.
