I am getting a different accountant. How do I remove the old accountant's access privileges and give a different accountant access?

Hello steve!

If you need to change your accountant in your QuickBooks Online account, you’ll need to delete your old accountant’s information.

Here’s how:

  1. Choose Gear icon > Manage Users.
  2. Highlight the name of the user you wish to delete.
  3. On the bottom right of that field, click Delete.
  4. You will now get this message: Are you sure you want to delete?
  5. Click Yes

Note: If you delete a user the history in the activity log for the user will remain.

If you'd like to give your new accountant access to your company, see the steps below.

  1. Choose Gear icon > Manage Users.
  2. Under Accounting Firms at the bottom of the page, click Invite Accountant.
  3. Enter Accountant's email address and name if you would like (this is optional, email is not).
  4. Click Next then Finish.

When you click Finish, an e-mail will be sent to your accountant. Tell them to read the e-mail, and then click the link that says Click Here. If they already have a QuickBooks Online user ID and password, they can use it. If not, this is where they create their user ID and password. Please note that the user will not be able to accept this invitation from the mobile app; they have to accept the invitation through the email link.

That’ll do it! Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! Stay safe!

What if the add accountant link doesn't come up after deleting it? I now have no accountants. My account is the master admin too.

Hello, tbash.

Thanks for joining in on this thread and letting me know about what you're seeing (or not seeing rather) when trying to add an accountant. I'd be glad to offer my assistance.

To make sure this isn't an issue with the browser, I recommend clearing the cache first. Every so often the cache can get bogged down with older stored data which can potentially cause system errors in QuickBooks Online. Clearing it will get everything back up and running at optimum performance. For example, if you're using Chrome, these steps will walk you through the process:

1. Click the three vertical dots in the top right corner.

2. Select History, then History once more.

3. Choose Clear browsing data.

4. Only check Cached images and files.

5. Change the Time range to All time.

6. Click Clear data.

This article provides the directions to do this in different browsers: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Getting-Started/How-do-I-clear-my-browser-cache-and-temporary-Internet-files/m-p/186420.

Additionally, this article offers helpful pointers on managing accountant users in QuickBooks Online: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Help-Articles/How-to-manage-an-accountant-user-in-QuickBooks-Online/m-p/186006.

Please let me know how things look after giving this a try. I'll be here to help.

In my situation, the "old" accountant has "master admin" and has become non-responsive.  I can not get the old accountant to return calls or get the work done to complete my return(s).

Is there a procedure for intuit/QuickBooks to grant me "master admin" on my business account if the old accountant does not respond to repeated requests?

Thank you for joining the thread, @BobStahrBTC.

Yes, there's a process on how to transfer the master admin role to yourself. I'm here to route you to the right support who can assist you with the steps.

To transfer the role, you can connect with our Support Team. This way, a representative can open your account securely and give you the master admin role.

Here's how to contact support:

  1. Open QuickBooks, then go to the Help.
  2. Select the QuickBooks Desktop tab.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Let's talk, and then choose a way to connect.

Before that, you can open this link so you reach out to them at your most convenient time: Support hours and types.

For more information about the different users and roles in QuickBooks Desktop, feel free to read the details from these articles:

Once done, you can also open the topics from our help articles as your guide while working with QuickBooks in the future.

Keep in touch with me if you have any other questions. I'm always here to help. Have a good day!
