How do I change the master admin when the system keeps routing me to password change instead?

Thanks for posting to the Community, @userpastor.

Firstly, you'll have to ensure that the user is added as a Company admin to transfer the master admin role.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Dashboard.
  2. Under Your Company, click Manage Users.
  3. Click the Add user button in the upper right-hand corner.
  4. Select Company Admin, and then click Next.
  5. Enter the new user's profile information.
  6. Click Save.

Then the user checks the email to accept the invitation. Then normally, when you have access to the primary contact's (master admin) sign-in credentials, you can change the master admin function by editing the user role under Manage users.

You can follow these steps:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Manage Users.
  3. Click the drop-down arrow in the Action column and choose Make master admin.
  4. Select Make master admin on the pop-up that appears.
  5. An invitation email will then be sent to the user to accept the role.

You'll want to use an incognito window and change the master admin rights from there. This browser mode is free from cache data that stores internet files that makes QuickBooks keep routing you to password change.

These are some of the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N
  • Mozilla: Ctrl+Shift+P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If this works, I suggest clearing the cache since it causes issues in QuickBooks Online. Lastly, make sure that the browser you're using is updated. You can also try a different supported browser.

I'm always to help you if you have other concerns. Stay safe and have a great day ahead!
