I am managing 3 sub companies under on account by using the classes.  I need to generate individual trial balances for each sub company.  I am a proficient Sage Intact user and that software has a robust report writer that allows me to create just about any report.  I am performing financial reviews on the side for a couple of clients and they both use QBO.  Is there a way to get a report writer in QBO that allow from more customization, or can a custom report be generated by Intuit?

Warm welcome, tawarren63. I understand you want to generate and filter the trial balance report by class.

Currently, the trial balance report is unable to filter class. However, you can run the General Ledger or Transaction Detail by Account report to filter transactions by class.

  1. Hover to the Reports, then enter General Ledger or Transaction Detail by Account in the search bar.
  2. Click Switch to classic view, then tap Customize.
  3. Click Change columns and tick Class.
  4. Click Filter, then tap the Class dropdown and select a specific customer if necessary.
  5. Once done, hit Run report

I've included a screenshot for reference.

You can export the Trial Balance and Transaction Detail report and consolidate both. You can manually add a class column and input the necessary details in their respective rows.

Moreover, you have the option to memorize the reports you've customized. This way, you won't have to do the customization process again.

Hi,

I am also in the same situation, with a couple companies using QBO that have sub funds/classes. Is QBO working at building the functionality to have a Trial Balance by class? I would think it would be pretty straightforward if they already do the GL.

Thanks,

Ross

I can see that every business has definite needs, 9Ross9.

It's crucial to ensure that all your transactions are entered accurately to maintain well-balanced books. Keeping track of these entries with specific classes recorded on them will help you identify the profitability of your company. However, the ability to run Trial Balance by Class report is unavailable in the program. As a workaround, you can follow the information shared by my colleague above.

For now, you can send your valuable feedback directly to our product engineers to allow this option when running reports. They may consider your suggestion and will work on its progress to include them in future product updates. To do this:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
  2. Enter your product suggestions or feedback.
  3. Then, click Next to submit.

In addition to that, you can also visit our QuickBooks Online Blog to be updated with our latest news and updates, including product improvements.
