Question

How do I customize a report to include dates including last year and this year to date?

I am running a report for just one customer that wants to see all invoices and payments from now back to January 1 2020. The customization of dates keeps bouncing back to 2020 only or 2021 only.

I can provide you the easiest tip to set the reports custom date, @ledoffice.

You can run the Invoices and Received payments report choose the Custom selection in the Report period drop-down list. You can then have the option to set the starting date to January 1, 2020.

I'll guide you how:

  1. Select the Search icon on the top right panel.
  2. Type "invoices an" and then select Invoices and Received Payments.
  3. In the Report period drop-down list, scroll up/down to choose Custom.

  4. Hover the start date box to click upon the calendar icon and then click the left arrow until you get January, then pick day 1.
  5. Click the Customize button on the upper right of the report.
  6. Select Filter and click the Customer drop-down to choose a specific customer.
  7. Hit Run report.

Well done! You've already customized the date of the report. If you want to get the 2021 and 2020 period data only showing on a report, just click the Report period drop-down and then scroll down to choose This Calendar Year for 2021 or Last Calendar Year for 2020.

However if you want to see the two periods appear on a report in QuickBooks Online (QBO), I suggest exporting each report to Excel since we're unable to create this special report for now. Then, copy the other statement to the different period so you can differentiate them in one file.
