Thank you for reaching out to us, alnsyd77.

I'm happy to share with your some insights about restoring a backup file.

The option to restore a backup file is available for QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). If you want to transfer your file from QBDT to QBO, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open your QBDT file (restore the backup file to your QBDT account).
    1. Go to the File menu, then select Open or Restore Company.
    2. Click on Restore a backup copy, then click Next.
    3. Choose Local Backup and then Next.
    4. Browse your computer for your backup company file. It should look like this: [Your company name].qbb.
    5. Select a folder to decide where to save your restored company file. Then select Open.
    6. When you're ready, select Save. If you see any messages about possibly overwriting your data, select the option that best fits your needs. Don't overwrite anything unless you know you want to.
  2. Go back to the File menu.
  3. Tap on Utilities, then select Copy Company File for QuickBooks Online.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

You can also check how to move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Moreover, here's how you can find out what data doesn't convert when you migrate from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

If you have any other questions about uploading your file to QBO, please let me know. It's my pleasure to help. Have a good one!

@alnsyd77

If you are using QB Online, your data is not on your local machine.
