How do I go back and change our new company business type set-up to "other" instead of "nonprofit"?

I chose nonprofit for the Business type when I set up our company, but I need to change it to "other".  I need to know how to get back to the company page I created.

"Business Type" is a setting you select in the interview process, to give you two things:

Starting setup <== this is all in your file now, you add, delete, rename and refine

Tax line mapping <== this is based on the business Tax entity Type

There is no "going back" to the Interview. It controls Nothing. Everything is in your file.

If the issue is the Tax line Mapping, which is only a function of "I intend to import this QB data file into Turbo Tax or one of the other Intuit professional tax preparer programs" and it bothers you that it is the wrong tax form, you go to Company menu > My Company (or, it might show as Company Info; they keep changing the wording) and top right is a Pencil Tip = Edit. Change the Tax Mapping here for the Tax Entity type.

If it is due to the type of chart of accounts pulled in how do I change it?

Hello there, NVLCCD.

I agree with qbteachmt. You can no longer modify your Company's Business Type. However, you can change the Income Tax Form Used by clicking the new tax form from the drop-down list in the Report Information section

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Company menu.
  2. Choose My Company.
  3. Click the pencil icon from the Company Information.
  4. Select Report Information.
  5. Click the drop-down for Income Tax Form Used.
  6. Click OK.

Also, may I know what do you mean when you say if its due to the Chart of Accounts (COA) pulled? Are you trying to change an account type from the COA accounts? If so, you can edit it by following the steps below:

  1. Open you Chart of Accounts.
  2. Choose an account and right-click to Edit Account.
  3. From the Account Type drop-down, choose the right account.
  4. Click Save & Close.

Any additional information would be much appreciated. Don't hesitate to leave a comment by clicking the Reply button below if you have other concerns.

Good evening,

Is there a way to view what your business and industry type is once you enter it?  I don't want to make any changes to it, I just want to view it.

I can help you with that. Simply go to the Company menu and select My Company

I'm adding a screenshot for your visual reference:

There you have it! If you have any other questions, I'm just a post away.
