Welcome to the Community space, @ptsa.

Let me clarify and give insights to your queries about whether there is a way to make information entered into Desktop automatically update the Online version.

The ability to move and make your information entered in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) automatically update to QuickBooks Online (QBO) is unattainable. However, you still have the choice to perform the migration process from QBDT to QBO.

To switch to QuickBooks Online, you must first learn how to prepare and move your company file. Familiarize yourself with the basics of QBO, and you'll have access to a more flexible, secure, and up-to-date platform for your bookkeeping needs.

Know the benefits of moving to QBO, and if you're an accountant, learn how to set your clients up for success.

Watch or follow the steps to get it done:

Step 1: Get your desktop file ready

Step 2: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online

Step 3: Get ready to use QuickBooks Online

You can check this article for more detailed information: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

I migrated from Desktop to Online about a month ago but then encountered some iif import limitations in Online, so I switched back to Desktop.

I have since resolved my iif issues and want to move back to Online.

In doing so is there a refresh or resync option to update Online to match Desktop or do I delete my company in Online and start the migration process from Desktop to Online again?

If starting over, how do I delete the initial migrated data, to then be able to start fresh?

Thanks

Alan

Welcome to the Community, @aspain2209. Allow me to guide you in migrating your data to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

There's no refresh or resync option to update your QBO account to match the Desktop version. No worries, you can still delete the initial migrated data.

If your account is active for less than 60 days, you can purge the data and start over by following these steps:

  1. Log in to your QBO account.
  2. Add /purgecompany to the URL. For example, change https://qbo.intuit.com/c28/app/homepage to https://qbo.intuit.com/c28/app/purgecompany.
  3. A screen will appear with the summary of the items to be deleted.
  4. Type the word YES once the data gets deleted, then click OK.
  5. Click Wipe Data after your selections are complete.
  6. Once the deletion is complete, you will be rerouted to your home page.

If your account is more than 60 days, you can't purge it anymore. What you can do is to either create a new one or delete all of your entries manually.

Moreover, you can check our QuickBooks Apps Store to look for a deleter tool: QuickBooks App Center.

Additionally, here's a helpful article with videos that will help you handle and manage your data: Get started with QuickBooks Online.

Why do you have to use QB Desktop and QB Online at the same time?
