I got rid of my accountant, but they are still the primary admin on my account for some reason.  How do I remove them from my account and make myself the primary admin?

If you can still reach out to your accountant, you can collaborate with them to transfer the Primary admin access back to you, wcrag. To help you with this, I'll be providing the steps below.

Once an accountant user is also the Primary admin for their client's QuickBooks Online (QBO) company file, they can transfer the access back to their client.

In your case, you'll have to contact the accountant and let them follow these steps to grant you the Primary access to your company:

  1. Log in to QBO, and the accountant should select your company on the Go To QuickBooks menu.
  2. Go to the Gear icon and Manage users.
  3. They'll have to find you from the list of users. Then, click the Ellipsis︙icon under the Action column.
  4. Choose Change primary admin and confirm the action by hitting the Change primary admin again.

After the accountant completes these procedures, you'll receive an email with an invitation link. Kindly open the sent email and access the attached link to accept the Primary admin role.

When you've successfully claimed the Primary access, let's remove your accountant from your QBO account:

  1. Log in to your QBO account as the primary user.
  2. Navigate to the Gear icon and click Manage users.
  3. Choose the Accountants tab and locate the accountant from the list.
  4. Select Delete from the Action column and confirm by clicking the Delete button again.

You may also handle your company's user accessibility in QuickBooks. This way, you can control the area they can work on around the company file, depending on their position in the business.

If you have more questions about transferring the Primary access or need help with your transactions or reports, please add a comment below. I'll be here to help you.

@wcragoe

You should ask your former accountant to transfer the Primary Admin. Otherwise, purchase a third-party service to migrate your data to a new QBO account.
