Question

How do I report a problem? I tried chat, but I knew more than the guy I was chatting with

My downloaded info from Etsy is normally put into the correct category. Since the 1st, my income and half of my expenses are being recorded as "uncategorized". I went through and put everything where it should be, but I don't want to do it for the year

Hello there, @hutchinsmichelle. Thanks for reaching out and bringing this to our attention.

 

To start, I'd like to verify if Etsy transactions are imported into your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) account or automatically downloaded on the Transactions page?

 

In the meantime, to isolate the issue as to why Etsy transactions categorize as uncategorized, I recommend checking on the Etsy side how transactions are categorized.

They are automatically loaded from Etsy and normally categorized automatically. 

Since the 1st, all of my income (sales) and some of my expenses are no longer coming across the way they did prior. On the 1st, they changed to uncategorized. I'm hoping I won't have to change and categorize manually all year?  Thank you!

Thank you for your quick response, @hutchinsmichelle. I can walk you through on how to create bank rules in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

 

Bank rules can help categorize your transactions automatically. Here’s how to create them:

 

  1. Select Settings and then Rules.
  2. Select Create Rule.
  3. In the Description field, enter the customer or vendor, check the Match exactly checkbox.
  4. Choose the account from the Account drop-down box. From the Type dropdown, select Business, Personal, or Split.
  5. Select the Category option and select a Category if you want QuickBooks to categorize transactions.
  6. Select the Also apply to past transactions checkbox if you want the rule to apply to past transactions.
  7. Select Save 

 

Bank rules are most effective for the same client and transactions.
