I'd be delighted to guide you in moving your data from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @lionrampant.

First off, know that there are limitations when you convert your file. This includes the attachments, audit trail, and recurring transactions.

After installing QBDT, follow these steps to start the importing process:

  1. Sign in to the QuickBooks Online account you want to convert using a supported web browser. Use your Intuit Account credentials.
  2. Highlight the URL and replace anything after /app/ with exportqbodatatoqbdt.  The URL should say https://cxx.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdtXX in the URL is a number, (don't edit the number), and select Enter on your keyboard. Other support task links won't work during this process.
  3. You'll see an Export Overview Window. Read the Export Overview. You can print it if you'd like. Select Get Started.
  4. Select Download tool to download the QuickBooks Desktop migration tool.
  5. Once you download the tool, launch the tool to install it and select Next.
  6. Accept the terms in the license agreement and select Next,
  7. Choose Complete as the type of setup, select Next and then Install.
  8. Select Finish.

Then, prepare the file and select your data in QBO for export. For the detailed steps, check out our this guide and proceed to Step 3 and 4: Convert your QBO data to QBDT.

Once done, you can run the Profit and Loss report to make sure your books match. To confirm your reports in both products, filter the date period to All Dates. Then, select Accrual as the accounting method.
