Question

How do I zero-out an asset on the balance sheet from January 2021 onward?

I am unable to delete (inactivate) an account under "assets". When I inactivate, it only zeros out the latest month - I need that line item to be deleted from January 2021.

I'm here to ensure you'll be able to exclude the account in your Balance Sheet, javad1.

As of the moment, we can only inactivate accounts in the Chart of Accounts. This is to keep your QuickBooks Online record accurate. For us to hide the transactions when running the Balance Sheet report, let's customize the report to filter them out.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu, then select and open the Balance Sheet report.
  2. Choose Customize.
  3. Under Show non-zero or active only on the Rows/Columns section, select Active.
  4. Click Run report.

You can also visit our customize reports article to learn more about personalizing the details you'd like to see on the report.

Once done customizing the report, you can also memorize it in QuickBooks Online. This helps you save it with its current customized settings.

Please come back and keep us posted in customizing the Balance Sheet report. I'm determined to ensure you'll only view the details you'd like to see.
