Welcome to the Community, @jbaxter-uvacswim

Let me share with you some information about the Budget vs. Actual report in QuickBooks Online.

You'll need to create the budget and make sure to set a class. This way, you can include the Class option in the Filter section.

From the budget creation page, there's a drop-down under Subdivide by, choose the Class. Without this step, your Budget vs. Actuals report would only show Account as a filter option.

There isn't an option to change this on an already saved budget, so I suggest creating a new one.

Once done, you can now run the report and make sure that you select the appropriate budget from the Budget section. Here's how:

  1. From the left panel, click Reports.
  2. Search for Budget vs. Actuals.
  3. In the Budget section, select the appropriate budget with the Class.
  4. Click Run report.

I've added a screenshot below for your visual reference.

Thank you for replying. The issue I think here is that the budget was created for FY22 before it was decided to use classes. No I can't go back. Right?

Hello there, @jbaxter-uvacswim.

You can edit the previously created budget. To do this, here's how:

  1. Go to Gear icon ⚙ at the top.
  2. Choose Budgeting.
  3. Locate the budget on the list.
  4. In the Action column, click the dropdown button and choose Edit.
  5. Edit each account one month at a time.
  6. To change the time period from month-to-month to quarterly or yearly, select the Gear ⚙ at the top of the budget. Then select Quarter or Year.
  7. Select Save or Save and close.
