Question

How to delete a credit memo.

I recently switched from QBD to QBO. In desktop, you were able to easily mark a vendor or customer as inactive. When we migrated to online, a lot of our inactive vendors and customers reappeared. When I marked one of our old customers as in active, it created an entry for 2019 and also put a credit memo on our current AR. I can not edit or delete the memo on our AR. What can I do to remove or fix this problem? Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the Community, Richard.

Thanks for switching to QuickBooks Online as your new accounting software and sharing your concern details.

In your case, you may want to pull up the Transaction List by Customer and Transaction List by Vendor reports and customize it to show the credit memos only. Then delete the credit memos from the inactive vendor. I'll guide you on how:

    1. Go to Reports.
    2. In the search bar, type Transaction List by Customer.
    3. Click Customize. Select the arrow next to Filter.
    4. Choose the Transaction Type drop-down arrow, then choose Credit Memo or Vendor Credit.
    5. Click Run report.
    6. Locate the credit memo that needs to be deleted.

For additional resources, I've added an article that provides detailed information on handling credits and turning on the auto-apply feature: Create and apply credit memos or delayed credits in QuickBooks Online.
