How to do a simple report of any category in QB? II have quicken and it is simple as can be in there. I simply want to know how much (TOTAL SUM) I spent on widgets

I know a report you can use to get the details you need, @laurabrehmer.

 

You can run the Transaction Detail by Account report. Then, customize it to show the total widgets spent amount for each category. I'll quickly run through the steps to expedite this task.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Go to the Reports menu at the left pane.
  2. Hover down to the For my accountant section, and then choose the said report.
  3. Click the Customize button at the top, and then select the desired Report period.
  4. Go to the Rows/Columns section, and then choose Account from the Group by drop-down.
  5. Navigate through the Filter section.
  6. Select All from the Account drop-down.
  7. Choose any of these Distribution Accounts from the drop-down list:  All Expenses/Liabilities/Accounts Payable.
  8. Select other details as needed, and then click Run report.
