Question

I am trying to inactivate an account but get a message that it is used by a product/service so it can't be inactivated. How can I find out what the product is?

Welcome to the Community, linda.

I'm here to provide you with information on how to find out what product is linked to the account you want to inactivate in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To find out what products/services are linked to the account, we can run a Product/Service List report for easy tracking. Here's how:

1. On your QBO account, go to the Reports tab.
2. Enter Product/Service List in the search bar.
3. On the report page, click Customize to filter and customize columns.

4. Select the filters you want to be shown in the report's rows/columns.

5. Once ready, click on Run report.

Kindly refer to the photo below for the overview of the report:

Tip: Click on the product/service in the report to directly edit the account linked to it. Make sure not to use the account you want to inactivate.

Once done, you can then proceed to make the account inactive.

I'll also share this article that can serve as your reference if you want to learn how to reconcile your accounts so they always match your bank and credit card statements: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
