Question

I have a subscription that needs renewed, when I tried to renew it instead it created a new account and won't let me resubscribe to the current one. How do I fix this?

Hi there, sweettoothsawyer.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I'll be sharing details about the availability of the QuickBooks account after cancelation. Then, ensure you'll be able to reactive your account and update your bank info in QuickBooks Online.

We preserve your company data for 365 days after the cancelation date in QuickBooks Online. If you resubscribe within that time, your data will still be available and you should be able to resubscribe to the current QuickBooks account. Since QuickBooks created a new account when you tried to renew it, I recommend logging in to your QuickBooks account using a private browser. This is to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue, and private browsing doesn't store local files or cache.

Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using:

  • For Firefox or Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

If it works in incognito, I recommend clearing the cache of your regular browser. This removes the history or log of sites so you can start with a clean slate. You can check this article to see the steps: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

If the steps above didn't work, use another supported browser as alternatives.

However, if the account is already passed one year, you're unable to subscribe to the current account, and that is why it automatically creates a new one.

On the other hand, when you first connect your online bank and credit card accounts, QuickBooks Online downloads past transactions up to a certain date. Then, it automatically downloads the latest transactions every night. Since your banking info isn't updating and you’re not getting the latest transactions or don’t see new ones, I suggest checking various areas of your accounts to find your transactions.

To start with, I recommend clicking the Update button on the Banking page. It refreshes the connections between the bank's website and QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. On the left pane, click Banking.
  2. Go to the Banking tab.
  3. Click to highlight the account you're updating.
  4. Click the Update button. Please run the update around 3-5 times to build a stable connection.

If you get the same result, it may be stuck somewhere around the banking menu. To confirm this one, you'll have to check the said section. You can open this article to see steps on how to perform the process: What to do if you can’t find downloaded transactions in QuickBooks Online. This also provides another instruction on how to resolve the problem if still continues to occur.

Once everything is good, you can categorize your transactions by matching and adding them to avoid duplicate entries.

Don't hesitate to post again or provide extra details if you have additional queries about renewing your QBO account and updating your bank in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to help.
