I set up my QB Self-Employed online using my phone, through the app. I’m trying to work in the account on my desktop. It let me log in, but when I click on anything, it says, “you need to have a QB Online subscription to access this page”.

It's possible that the link you used when logging in is for the QuickBooks Online version. For QuickBooks Self-Employed, you can use this instead: QuickBooks Self-Employed.
