Question

I think I corrupted my file

Our file runs from Fiscal Year 2019 - current. On a Profit & Loss report, I entered 2004 as a start date for a project the company did back then. Clearly I didn't think that through because it crashed the file, and now I can no longer open it. Because I can't open the file anymore, I can't fix the year, so this is very circular. Any tips?

Let’s ensure you can access your company file again to run your Profit and Loss report in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), dunbar.

In your case, since you no longer have the option to access your company file. We can perform troubleshooting to help you with it. To start, let’s download and install QuickBooks Tool Hub. Beforehand, please make sure your QuickBooks Desktop is up to date. Then, proceed to the steps below:

  1. Close your QuickBooks account.
  2. Download the most recent version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub, then save the file somewhere you can easily spot it.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Pay heed to the onscreen prompts to install, then agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the installation completes, click the icon on the Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Then, performs the steps below to repair your QuickBooks.

  1. In the QuickBooks Tools Hub, select Company File Issues.
  2. Click Quick Fix my Program.
  3. Once completed, click OK and launch your QuickBooks.

Lastly, run the QuickBooks File Doctor by referring to Step 3: Run QuickBooks File Doctor in this article: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.

Once sorted, I've added these articles for more tips when customizing your reports and saving your previous customization for future use:
