I did not receive any warning that I will lose my data upon upgrading. How can I retrieve my self-employed data?

Hi there, @ronnie-stern.

You'll have to export your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) data, then import it to QuickBooks Online (QBO). It's just a few clicks and you can start your QBO account in no time.

Here's how:

  1. Start in QBSE, then select Transactions from the navigation bar
  2. Select the filter on the tax year or select All dates if you wish to bring all your transactions over to QuickBooks.
  3. Select the download option. Save it somewhere that's easy to find, like your Windows desktop. We suggest disconnecting your bank account once you have downloaded your transactions.

I'd also suggest exporting your transactions and reports. This way, you can access them at any time.

Then, upload the CSV file into QBO.

  1. Sign in to your new QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Settings and then Import Data.
  3. Select Bank Data.
  4. In the Get your info from your bank section, select Browse.
  5. Find and select the CSV file you downloaded, select Open. Then select Next.
  6. From the QuickBooks Account ▼ drop-down menu, select the account you want to move the transactions into.
  7. Select Next.
  8. If you don't have any accounts yet, here's how to create new ones.
  9. Match the statement fields from the CSV with the ones in QuickBooks Online. Then select Next.
  10. Select the transactions you want to move to QuickBooks Online. Then select Next.
  11. Select Yes, then select Let’s go.

Once done, categorize your transactions in the For Review tab from the Banking menu.

Don’t forget to cancel the paid or trial subscription of QBSE. Billing information can be accessed through the Gear icon of the QBSE account. Proceed to Step 4 in this article for the detailed steps: Switch from QBSE to QBO.
