Question

I want to download the QBO desktop app, but the "Get the desktop app" link is not showing up under settings when I log into QBO. Any help on where to access the link?

I have checked the gear icon, my account settings, and menu settings. I have also switched between business and accountant views. Searching online keeps bringing me back to the same QB article describing how to access it under Settings. When logging into QBO, the prompt is not listed under any settings menu.

Hello, kkendall. We can utilize a direct link to download the QuickBooks Online (QBO) desktop app. I'll gladly share the information below.

Downloading the QBO app through the Get the desktop app option in the Settings or Gear ⚙ icon is only available on QuickBooks Online Advanced and Accountant versions. Instead, let's manually download the app using any of the links below. But before doing so, please ensure you have a 64-bit processor if you're using a Windows computer.

Also, you have the option to include a QuickBooks Online shortcut or icon on your desktop. You'll want to look into this article on how to do this for all browsers, regardless of whether you are using a Windows PC or a Mac: Create a desktop shortcut for QuickBooks Online.

I'm ready to back you up if you need more help downloading and installing QuickBooks products. I'll keep the thread open so you can comment back.

This is very helpful and I will try to direct download.  However, I am using the Accountant's version as a ProAdvisor, and the "get desktop app" is not any of the locations mentioned above and in knowledge articles.  I have over 10 clients on QBO and it is not available.

Thanks for getting involved with this thread, hennide.

You can try the links mentioned in Rea_M's post to download copies of the QuickBooks desktop app for both Windows and Mac computers.

I can confirm the Windows link works for me.

Here's an image showing my experience:

There's also these two links you can use for direct downloads of the QuickBooks desktop apps:

I've also included a couple detailed resources about working with our desktop apps which may come in handy moving forward: Download & use the desktop app

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have an awesome Monday!
