Question

Is there a way to bring back a deleted credit card account?

I had an Authorized User card linked to my QuickBooks Self Employed and had properly recorded some business transactions with it. That card was recently canceled, but I needed to keep the transactions in QuickBooks. However, QuickBooks would continuously give me errors of "Please reconnect this credit card, we're having troubles connect".

Getting annoyed with seeing that message pop up constantly, I went through the prompts to try and get rid of it. I also recently opened up a new Amex card, so when QuickBooks asked if I have a replacement card for this expired credit card account, I mistakenly chose my new credit card.

Unfortunately, now this old credit card account is no longer found within my Accounts dropdown in the Transactions section. And now all of the old transactions I made with this old card are now listed under my new Amex card. This is obviously incorrect and not reflective of which specific card I made the charges on. Since the original credit card account is no more, I have no way of "relinking" the old credit card.

Is there a way to revert this account merger that I did? Or any solution so that I don't have transactions showing under a credit card that did not make those transactions?

Allow me to provide some information about deleted credit account in QuickBooks Self-Employed, @davids2210.

When you remove a bank account with a balance, QuickBooks forms a journal entry for the transactions. This moves the remaining balance to another account so it doesn't disappear from your books. Aside from that the existing transactions in the account remain on your financial reports.

However, retrieving the entries is a little bit tricky. Thus, QuickBooks won't move the balance back into the bank account once you reconnect it again. To handle this, you may need to make corrections to journal entries and balances. That being said, I highly recommend consulting an accountant for more guidance.

You'll have to categorize transactions to ensure they are assigned to the correct line of your Schedule C.
