Question

Is there a way to customize reports to include a total line? I am trying to rebuild custom reports used by a previous bookkeeper but I am unable to mimic them exactly.

Our board members are set in their ways and want to see the checks and withdrawals, which I have come close to finding using the "Transaction List w/Splits" but I have no way of totaling the checks and withdrawals for a selected time period

The Transaction List with Splits report shows a detailed breakdown of all the transactions in your account, lcfirebookkeeper.

This includes any splits or allocations made within those transactions. However, there is currently no option to customize this report and add a total line.

If you're using QBO Simple Start, Essentials, or Plus, you can export the report to Excel. Then, use the Sum function to get the total amount for all checks and withdrawals. Here's how to export the report:

  1. Go back to the Transaction List with Splits report.
  2. Click the drop-down list for Export/Print▼, then select Export to Excel.

This allows you to get the total figures you need from the detailed transaction data provided in the Transaction List with Splits report.

If you're using QBO Advanced, there's a Create New Report feature. This will let you create custom reports using pivot tables and add line totals. Let me show you how:

  1. Go back to the Report menu and click Create new report.
  2. Select Transaction List and click Create.
  3. Click Filter.
  4. Select Transaction Type in the first line, choose Equals in the second, and check the types of transactions that you need to be part of the report.

After that, you can now add conditions to the Pivot table. Here's how:

  1. Click Pivot, then select a parameter in the Rows field. You can either use Date or Transaction type.
  2. Select another parameter in the Columns section.
  3. Choose Amount in the Values section.
  4. Make sure to check the Show totals boxes.
  5. Turn on Show pivot table.
