Question

Is there any way to just use QuickBooks as a desktop version and forego any online version?

We have Desktop 2021 and need to upgrade to the latest version in order to download our bank transactions into our register. We use Quickbooks to help with our end of year taxes and nothing more than a glorified checkbook. We do not like the online version and the cloud of intrusion around it.

Besides the bank feed feature, do you also need to run any add-ons? e.g QB Payroll

Yes, you can continue using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @Bassman. I'll guide you through upgrading to the latest version.

To begin, visit plans and pricing page to select a subscription that best suits your business needs. Then, follow the steps below to upgrade to latest version:

  1. Purchase your new version, then visit our QuickBooks Desktop Manager download page.
  2. Click Download to get QuickBooks Desktop Manager. If prompted by your computer, select Run.
  3. Review the QuickBooks License Agreement.
  4. When ready, press Let's get started.
  5. Enter your license number and click Search. If you don't have a license, enter your email address.
  6. Intuit will email you a one-time PIN number.
  7. Choose an email address and click Continue.
  8. Enter the one-time PIN, then press Submit.
  9. Find the version of QuickBooks you want and select its Install option.

Moreover, if you require payroll for taxes, you can refer to this article: Get Desktop Payroll with QuickBooks Enterprise. For detailed information about payroll subscriptions, I recommend contacting our Sales team .

Regarding the online version, if you have already purchased the subscription, you have the option to cancel it. Please note that after cancellation, you'll retain read-only access to your data for a year.

Additionally, categorizing and reconciling downloaded bank transactions will help you track your income and expenses, and assist in identifying any inconsistencies for accurate financial reporting.

Please let me know if you need further guidance on upgrading your QBDT or if you have any concerns about cancelling your QBO subscription. I'm here to help.
