Joining payroll and accounting...

I currently have two "companies" under my intuit account that are technically the same company. I originally joined for payroll/workman's comp, and shortly thereafter added the accounting too. Someone at QB messes up and made the accounting side separate from the payroll and they only kind of talk to each other. Has anyone else had to deal with this? I'm told that I will have to start a whole new "company" and transfer everything over. I will take any advice i can from you if you have ever had to deal with this. Thanks in advance.

I appreciate your concern about managing your QuickBooks company file, @TofftElectrical. Below, I will discuss further and provide guidance on how we can handle this issue.

If you've subscribed to a standalone payroll service before QuickBooks Online (QBO) or the accounting company file, the option to merge them is unavailable.

To resolve this, you don't need to create a new company to start over. Instead, you can cancel your standalone payroll account and subscribe to payroll through your QBO account. This approach ensures that the payroll and accounting data remain integrated.

Additionally, you can export the data from your standalone payroll file and import it into your QBO company file. I'll show you how.

To export all payroll-related transactions including tax ‌and contractor payments.

  1. Go to Payroll, then Overview.
  2. From the Shortcuts, select Export.
  3. Select the transactions you want to export. You can use Filters dropdown to find the transactions you need to export.
  4. Click Export.

You can refer to this article for further guidance: Export your payroll data into QuickBooks.
