Question

Journal entries

I have been using journal entries in Quickbooks Desktop for years.  Now, on Quickbooks Online, I have created the template for manual payroll entry in a journal entry. Payroll is every two weeks.  I cannot see how to 'memorize' this template, so it can be reproduced every two weeks for me to enter payroll, taxes, 401k contributions etc.  So, this is as much a 'memorize' transaction to use it every two weeks as it is a journal entry question

It’s nice to have you here in the Community, @rahbjee.

Let me help you with your concern about recurring journal entries in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You’re correct that QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) has the features to memorize transactions. This way, you can save templates that you repeatedly use for your business. Nonetheless, QBO has the same feature, and it's called Recurring Transactions. It has the same functionality as QBDT.

Since you mentioned that you already created the template, you can follow the steps outlined below to make it recurring:

  1. Open the existing journal entry.
  2. Make sure all the details are correct.
  3. Click Make Recurring at the bottom of the Journal Entry.
  4. Enter all the required details, including the interval of how frequently the journal entry will be automatically created.
  5. Click Save Template

Check out these articles to get more details about this feature:
