Question

Looking for a report by class in Quickbooks Online that shows detail transactions in the class. Is there also a class report that gives a summary instead of detail?

It's nice to see you in the QuickBooks Community, rclardy-grovehil. Let me provide a particular report that shows what you need to achieve your goal in QuickBooks Online.

I recommend running and customizing the Transaction Detail by Account report to appear detailed transactions by class.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Reports menu on the left panel.
  2. Go to the search bar and choose Transaction Detail by Account.
  3. Select the Customize button.
  4. Click the Change columns link and checkmark the boxes for Class, Transaction Type, and other needed info.
  5. Go to the Filter drop-down arrow.
  6. Choose the Transaction Type and Class boxes. Then, choose the specific entry and class.
  7. Click Run report.

Furthermore, you can also go to the Group by field and choose Class to run the report as a summary. I've added a screenshot below for visual reference.

Lastly, you can open this article if you need help deleting classes in QuickBooks: Create and manage classes in QuickBooks Online.

Hello.  This is helpful and I see all the transactions that occurred for the time period specified, but it is treating both sales receipts and checks as positive amounts to come up with a total.  In Desktop, the sales receipts were positives and the checks where negatives to come up with a total for the class.
