Question

On the Budget vs Actual report, can I show only the current month & YTD, rather than every month & YTD? Or can this be developed? We had it in QB Desktop.

Welcome to Community, layna-e-diehl.

You can filter the report period and manually enter the from and to date to view the current month. Let me guide you how.

  1. Go to Reports and then Budget vs. Actuals.
  2. In the Report period, choose Custom.
  3. Edit the dates to include the current month.
  4. Click Run report.

Once you're done, you can either export your report to Excel or print it. Please refer to this article for details about customizing reports.

I've added this article about exporting reports for your reference.

If you have other questions about reports, please let me know. I'm always here to help. Have a good one.

I believe the question is can the Budget vs actual report show the current month compared to budget along side the YTD compared to budget. If I misunderstood Im sorry, but that is what I am trying to do and the question sounds the same. The columns would be FebActual/Feb Budget/Feb Variance/YTD actual/YTD Budget/YTD Variance. Can this be run?

It report would be a Profit and Loss YTD Comparison compared to budget

Hey there, @swilliam15.

Thanks for reaching out. At the moment, QuickBooks Online doesn't support the option to run a comparison of YTD on the Budget vs. Actuals Report. For now, you'll need to run the report and compare it to the Budget Overview report for the year.

I'm looking for the same reporting.  I know I used to use with the desktop version.  This seems like a pretty common report and not sure why QBO wouldn't offer or be able to filter?  Are there any plans to add this report? Would really help.  Thank you.

Thanks for following on this thread, @lmt818.

I can see that a lot of customers have the same need about being able to run the Budget vs Actual Report (current month and YTD). Your voice is important to us, and we take customer’s suggestion as an opportunity to guide us on which area of the product we need to improve on.

I’m sending feedback about adding the mentioned date range option on your behalf for consideration in a future update. To keep you in the loop about the latest features being rolled out, check them through here: QuickBooks Blog.

Aside from that, I’m adding an article that lists all reports available in the online version: Reports included in your QuickBooks Online subscription.

If there’s anything else I can help you with, leave a comment below. I’m more than happy to assist further. Enjoy the rest of the day.

I'm also needing the same option for clients. For now, they are running the Budget vs Actual for the month and then YTD as two separate reports, which kills an extra tree each month (as they like them printed out). It would be great if this report could get added for QBO as it is in QBDT soon - very soon!

December 30, 2020

I too need this report.  I've ran it for my management for several years in QB Enterprise and now that I'm using the on-line version I can't seem to get the same basic reports that I had in QBDT.  This should be a simple fix for the programmers.  I can't understand for the life of me why Intuit would omit such important accounting features from QBO that were available in desktop.

I just want to re-iterate that this is a critical report for many organizations.  We want to see our current monthly budget along with the annual budget.  We used it all the time in Quickbooks Desktop and am now regretting switching to online.

I know how important it is to get the data for your business needs, jkhaferbecker.

  1. Select the Gear icon at the top, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions then select Next.
  3. You'll be provided a list of suggested Help articles related to your comment. You can read through them or select Skip and send message.

Hi, @SwaimBusSolns.

It's my priority to give you the best possible experience while working and QuickBooks Online (QBO) and running your reports. Thus, adding every month and year-to-date comparison on the Budget vs. Actual report is a great addition to QuickBooks.

I'll take note of your feedback so our engineers will be aware of the feature needed. You can also send your request through your QBO account. I'll guide you on how.

  1. Sign in to QBO.
  2. Go to the Gear icon at the top, then click on Feedback.

This report should be the STANDARD report.  It is ridiculous that it is not available.

August 19, 2022

Still not being able to run the Budget vs Actual Report (current month and YTD) in 2022 :(

I think all agree this is a fundamental feature and much needed.

August 19, 2022

I hear you, @danielps.

I'm here to help share insights about the details of your report in QuickBooks Online.

As of the moment, there isn't an integrated way to generate a budget vs actual report showing only your data within the current month and year-to-date transactions. And I'm also unable to provide the exact turnaround time as to when such a feature like this is added to the program.

Rest assured our developers are constantly taking in the voices of our customers, like you, to ensure you got the best experience while keeping your business growing with us. While the option is not yet available, I recommend getting in touch and letting our product developers know about this by sending a request via feedback. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under Profile, select Feedback.
  3. Describe how generating the current month and year-to-date transactions on a budget vs actual report helps your business in QuickBooks.
  4. Select Next.
  5. Click Skip and send message.

For now, I'm including our Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online page to track the status of your request and get the latest updates from our developer team. Updates such as how the recent enhancement made to QBO helps our business owners, like you.

It'll always be my pleasure to help if you've got other questions aside from generating reports in QuickBooks. Use the Reply button and leave your comment below so that I, @JonpriL, can assist you further. Take care always and stay safe!

January 2020 - August 2022...that is exactly 32 months. I know updating software takes time. How many requests need to be submitted to quickbooks online to make this report available? I need to rally the troops!

August 3, 2023

Is the answer to this question still "export it to Excel"?  Really, that's the answer??!! How can you take simple reports from Desktop and not even include them in Online. How is that progress?

August 3, 2023

I understand your frustration with having to pull up reports which are the same as QuickBooks Desktop @Civic. I can see the relevance of this feature and develop this function as soon as possible.

Please know that the feature limitation is due to the difference in functionality between the QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online, and the only way to make it possible is by sending feedback to our product developers.

With that, we can send a recommendation to our product developer and discuss this further with them. This way, they'll see your proposal and consider adding it to the next software update.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under the Profile column, press the Feedback button.
  3. Write your product suggestion, then click Next.

Our Product Development team receives your thoughtful comments (QBO) through the feature request tracking: QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

I'm also adding this article to discover what data you can move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you need help with pull-up reports available in QuickBooks Online. I'll do my best to assist you.

This is currently only available in the Desktop version. For this and many other reasons, we do recommend QuickBooks Desktop for those looking to use their QuickBooks data for strategic financial planning - the reporting is just too limited in Online. If you're happy with Online, consider a tool like CDATA to extract the info out of Online into Excel and the build the report in Excel. We've done that with several clients.

If you're looking to set up Budgeting in Desktop / switch from Online, we've put together a step by step article for Budgeting Setup in Desktop that could be useful for those in this thread

It has been OVER FOUR years that this report has been repeatedly requested and QBO STILL is not offering it.

We are in the middle of migrating to QBO (still running parallels) and it is this type of thing that makes us believe that we should drop the migration and stay with desktop!!

June 14, 2024

We just switched to QB Online and I'm so disappointed this report does not exist there. I cannot find a way to customize it either. Very disappointing! It is a pretty basic report, I can't believe it has not been developed.
