Question

Our Restore (QBO) did not seem to actually restore. We now have duplicate JEs and newly unreconciled items. Is there anything we should be looking for?

We restored a complete version and it did not reset items to the restore date, and we now have multiple issues with items from two previous FY.

Hello there, @usernicola-donaven. I've got few steps to help you fix issues after restoring your QuickBooks Online (QBO) file.

To start, you can delete those duplicate journal entries. Let me guide you how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account and click the Settings icon.
  2. Select the Chart of Accounts option.
  3. Then, find the account where the journal entries are located and click View register.
  4. Look for the duplicate journal entry in the account register and select it to expand the view.
  5. Click the Delete option and select Yes to confirm.

For further guidance, see this article: Reverse or delete a journal entry in QuickBooks Online. From here, you can also learn to reverse a journal entry.

Then, for the newly unreconciled items, you can manually reconcile them. Please refer to the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Gear menu and choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Look for the bank where you see the newly unreconciled items.
  3. Click Account history.
  4. From there, you'll see that the transactions are marked as Blank under the Check column.
  5. To reconcile them, you have to repeatedly click the box to change the status to R (reconciled).
  6. Once done, select Save.

You can visit this link for reference about the process: Undo or remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online. This article also provides you instructions on resolving reconciliation errors.

In QBO, creating an automatic backup to save you time is easy. Once you enable this feature, the program will back up your file every 5 to 10 minutes after you make changes.

Should you have any other concerns about restoring your QBO file, feel free to post here again. I'm always around to assist and ensure your success. Have a good one.
