Thank you for joining the Community, cbartlett994. I understand how important it is to ensure that the pastor's appreciation offerings and gifts are properly recorded and reported. Navigating payroll categories can be complex, especially when dealing with unique income types like these.

According to IRS guidelines for clergy wages, ministers performing ministrial services as employees or self-employed individuals must pay income tax on all earnings, including wages, offerings, and fees received. While we have supported pay types for clergy housing allowance, no specific pay type for Offerings and Gifts is available in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

You can set it up as a Bonus, Commission, or Compensation, and this income will be added to the wages in Box 1 on the W-2. However, given the complexities and special tax considerations for clergy income, it’s best to always consult with a tax professional or accountant to ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations. This will help you correctly set up these pay types and avoid any potential issues with tax reporting.
