My partner and I purchased a vehicle with cash from our personal accounts for the business. How do I record this?

Let me help you record the purchased vehicle from your personal accounts for the business, Rockyh1969.

We can record the business expense you paid for with personal funds. Just follow the steps below:

  1. Click the + New Plus icon.
  2. Select Journal Entry.
  3. On the first line, choose the expense account for the purchase.
  4. Enter the purchase amount in the Debits column.
  5. On the second line, select Partner's equity or Owner's equity.
  6. Enter the same purchase amount in the Credits column.
  7. Press Save and close.

For the reimbursement, we can record the reimbursement as a check. Here's how:

  1. Click the + New Plus icon.
  2. Select Check. Or if you're in the Business view, follow the steps to switch to the Accountant view first. Then come back to these steps.
  3. Choose a bank account to use to reimburse the personal funds.
  4. Select Partner's equity or Owner's equity in the Category column.
  5. Enter the amount to reimburse.
  6. Press Save and close.

We can also enter the reimbursement as an expense. Let me show you how:

  1. Click the + New Plus icon.
  2. Choose Expense.
  3. Select a bank account to use to reimburse the personal funds.
  4. Choose Partner's equity or Owner's equity in the Category column.
  5. Enter the amount of the reimbursement.
  6. Press Save and close.
