QBO to QBD Issues

I followed the instructions on exporting from QBO to QBD, updated the certificates as needed.

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/import-or-export-data-files/export-and-convert-your-quickbooks-online-data-to-quickbooks/01/186187#

The migration tool starts, lets me select the qbxml file, creates the file but then it throws the error code

1009 - Internal Error: exception unknown.

When I open the created file, no data has been transferred.  Can someone guide me on how to proceed.

I am using QB 2018 Premier Manufacturing and Whole Sale.

Let's get rid of the error so you can open the file in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), RuthAnnR.

The error occurs when:

  • QuickBooks isn’t running.
  • No company file is open.
  • An open window is preventing the connection.

What you need to do is:

  1. Exit and reopen QuickBooks.
  2. Sign in to your company file.
  3. Make sure there are no other windows open in QuickBooks.

If the same issue persists, you can completely uninstall QBDT using the Clean install process. It replaces your QuickBooks Desktop software and its installation files.

If you still see this error, get in touch with our Live Support Team so they can help move your data to QBDT.

Keep me posted if there's anything else you need by commenting below. I'm always right here to provide the information you need.

Hi Just followed all your instructions and even did the clean installation but still getting the same error once it reached 3% of migration.

What should I do?

Thanks for joining this conversation, ddva.

I appreciate you following the steps shared by my colleagues in this thread. I'll make sure this is taken care of for you.

Since the issue persists after performing the clean install, I highly suggest contacting our Support team. They have tools such as screen-sharing (remote access) that can pull up your account in a secure environment and check the cause of this odd behavior. They can also perform other troubleshooting steps if necessary.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. In QBDT, go to the Help menu at the top.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us, then Contact Us.
  3. Give a brief description of your issue, then Continue.
  4. Sign in to your Intuit account and click Continue, then Continue with my account.
  5. We'll email you a single use code. Enter your code and tick Continue.
  6. Choose chat with us or Have us call you.

To check for our Support hours, you can refer to this article: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.

In case you need it, I'll add this article that tackles managing and exporting your data from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for more information: Move your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

I also recommend visiting our website for tips and other resources you can use in the future: Self-help articles.

Please post again or leave a comment below if you have more questions about this or anything else. I'll be here to assist. Take care.

@RuthAnnR

Utilize the trial license of QBD 2021 to convert your data. If you are able to open the converted file on it, you may purchase a 3rd party downgrade service to open the file on your QBD 2018.

I am having the same issue.  QB Migration tool starts importing and a third of the way through I get the message “Internal error: Unknown exception, Error 1009”  I am using QB Pro 2021.  Can anyone help with this?

Thanks for joining the thread, @FCRVFastFix.

If I may ask, were you able to try the steps provided by my colleague @MaryLandT above? If no, I suggest following the above-recommended solution.

However, if the issue persists, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They have the tools to pull up your account to deep investigate the root of the problem and why the issue keeps appearing.

To reach them, here's how:

  1. Press F1 on your keyboard or go to the Help menu at the top.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Enter Support in the search field.
  4. Click the Contact us link at the bottom.

You can also check out this link for more information on how to connect with them: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support. Ensure to review their support hours, so you'll know when agents are available.

Let me know how it goes and if there's anything else you need. I'm here to help. Take care!

I've just been informed by QB Desktop support (after 53 min.) that as of Dec 2020 the QB migration tool no longer supports the conversion of QBO to QB Desktop.

I had the same error, and I found this article to be the answer I was looking for. Follow Step 3 exactly.
