Quickbooks Desktop 2024 edition install

For awhile I have been seeing the pop up that there is a new version of Desktop available (2024).  Today, I decided to do the upgrade (I assume its included in the ridiculous yearly charge).   When I log into camps.intuit, I just get a blank screen.  I have tried two different browsers.  So, my question is, do I need to do this upgrade seeing as I am unable to?  I have no choice but to continue to pay for QB so, they will get my money either way.

If you don't have any outstanding issue with QBD 2023, you don't have to upgrade to 2024. You can still use QBD 2023 until May 2026 as long as you pay the renewal.

Hi there, SDP.

I'm here to share information about upgrading your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) version.

The response to your inquiry will vary based on the version of QBDT you are utilizing. If you are currently using QBDT versions 2021-2023, there is no requirement to upgrade if you prefer not to, as these versions are still supported.

If you are utilizing an older version, you can continue to use it. However, please note that certain services such as QBDT Payroll, Desktop Payments, live technical support, Online Backup, Online Banking, and others will no longer be available to you. Please refer to this article for more information: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.

If you wish to continue upgrading to a new version, here's how to do it. When a new version of QuickBooks is available, you'll get a message when you open the software. We make it simple for you to upgrade.

  1. When you’re ready, select Upgrade Now.
  2. Select Keep old version on my computer if you want to keep your current QuickBooks. Then select Let’s go. QuickBooks downloads, installs, and activates the new version for you. It updates your company file(s).
  3. When the upgrade is done, select Open QuickBooks.

If you don't get a prompt to upgrade, change your one time message prompts.

  1. Go to Edit, and then select Preferences.
  2. Select General, and then select My Preferences.
  3. Select Bring back all one time messages and then OK.
  4. Close, then reopen QuickBooks. You’ll have the prompt to upgrade your QuickBooks subscription.

You can get the latest version of QBDT from the QuickBooks Desktop Manager. You can select and install all your QuickBooks products.

To learn more about managing and upgrading your QBDT version, check out this article for further guidance: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, or Enterprise.

Please let me know if you have additional questions about this or anything else. I'm always here to assist. Take care.

I am using the 2023 Desktop version.  Typically, the upgrades do not apply to me as I use very few features.  I only have 3 employees.  So, I won't rush to upgrade and will use the second solution when I do.

We also get the blank screen when we try to enter the camps.intuit site. Both through the website and through QB. We have tried updating our version of QB but cannot access camps (per their instructions to get the update).  I have tried getting support repeatedly and each time they tell me to access the update through camps, even after I explain it goes to a blank screen and stops there.  NO ONE in customer support seems to know how to help or is willing to do anything beyond tell you to follow the directions and go to camps to update. So I am just using my old version until I can't then I will go back to calling and arguing with them again until they provide me with another way to load destop (because I will not be using the online version).

Its such a pain. You have to be in the mood to make the call.   I did a chat and was provided a number to some odd technical support that told me my file was corrupt.  But they could fix it for some crazy amount of money.  It felt like a scam even thought the number was provided in a chat with QB.   I did another chat and got assistance and was walked through the upgrade.   It all depends on who you get.  I was told on this chat that this camps issue is a known one and they are working on it.  Its hard to know what to believe but, my QB is upgraded and I don't have to worry about camps for now.  Good luck!

A bunch of thieves!

I have Quickbooks for 24 years and have never seen such price increases and lack of customer service.  Every call to Intuit is a 2 hour tour on how to get abused!  They cant answer the simplest questions and conflicting information from the various representatives around the world.  I wish I cold change but like a pirate Intuit is holding me hostage!  What a shame!

@SSSelect

Which QB Desktop year version do you have?

What the simplest questions did you ask?

January 9, 2024

I have the Accountant Desktop Plus, I need to update to the 2024 and not find a way to do so?  Can someone help?

January 9, 2024

We have a way for you to upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2024, cryan262. I'll guide you through the process.

Before we begin, I'd like to verify your current version of Accountant Desktop Plus. This helps us determine which path we'll take in completing the procedure.

If you're using one of the latest versions (2021, 2022, and 2023), you can easily upgrade by following these steps:

  1. Go to Edit, and then select Preferences.
  2. Select General, and then select My Preferences.
  3. Choose Bring back all one-time messages and then OK.
  4. Close, then reopen QuickBooks. You’ll have the prompt to upgrade your QuickBooks subscription.

For more details about this, please see this article: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, or Enterprise.

If your Accountant Desktop Plus version is older than those mentioned above, note that they have a three-year life cycle. You must install the newer version of the one you have, and restore and update your company files in between before upgrading to 2024.

Additionally, QBDT 2024 has better data security, more productivity, and a better view of inventory levels. To know what features are included in the said release and how you can use them to benefit your business, please see this article: What’s new in QuickBooks Desktop 2024.

Should you need any further assistance upgrading QBDT, don't hesitate to leave a comment below. I'm available here to help you at any time.

This does not work to upgrade.

Quickbooks has decided to treat their customers of many years with total disregard.  These payroll and subscription renewal fees have become absolutely prohibitive for the average small business. In the past the sales model was to provide product enhancements which would encourage you to upgrade product.  That coupled with reasonable annual fees for the payroll module is what has led to them being the industry leader of this service with small businesses.  A few years ago that changed and minimal if any significant changes were made to the software including not even fixing the dismal slow performance, the poor formatting of the reports , poor formatting of the date column on the register screen.... I could go on.   Since no one would willing upgrade to the newest versions they switched to a subscription based model forcing users to upgrade or your software became unusable.  About the same time they started implementing additional fees per employee as if it somehow cost more to calculate the payroll for more employees.  If you are not providing direct deposit then there is little or no additional expense in calculating the payroll.  Intuit knows full well that they have you hostage.  They waited for all competitors to essentially drop out of the market then they started ramping up the charges.  Finally, no one wants to be a part of your Cloud where your data is easily hacked. Just ask T-Mobile, Delta Dental, MoveIt, Chick-fil-A, and many others about their substantial data breaches.  No thanks!  Please stop trying to force all users online. Shame on intuit for treating their long term customers this way!

@SoftwareCrookery

You can use QB Desktop with a non subscription license + a 3rd party payroll app to lower your costs.

January 10, 2024

I do not think there is any more desktop version without a subscription

January 18, 2024

The "seamless" migration didn't work for me. After 5+ hours on phone with many different "agents" I was told I needed to pay more for a QB accountant to redo my books. These books worked for me for 30 years and I faithfully paid for an upgrade every 3 years.

I want a total refund for an unusable program. Am contacting my credit card comp[any to reverse these Intuit charges,

January 18, 2024

@Kaydq

The migration of what? Did you upgrade from an old version to QB Desktop 2024, or else?

January 18, 2024

from the old version QB Pro 2021

February 12, 2024

The company I work for uses QuickBooks Desktop Pro, and we are currently using the 2023 version. I guess we are on the "Legacy Enhanced Payroll for Unlimited Employees" plan, and our subscription renewed for $850 plus tax in December 2023. I would like to upgrade to the 2024 version before July, but for some reason, the 2024 version of Desktop Pro is not listed in our online CAMPS account for download. EVERY single year going back to 2009 is listed in our account, but 2024 is not there (and I need the product code). I briefly chatted with support, and they tried to tell me that we no longer have "version protection" included with our yearly renewal, so we must separately purchase QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024. Could someone who knows what they are talking about tell me if this is true? Why would we need to separately purchase QB Desktop Pro 2024 at an additional cost when that has never ever been the case in any previous year? (The download has always been available automatically in our account, and we are only ever charged the flat legacy fee (i.e. $850 plus tax in December 2023, $700 plus tax in December 2022, etc.)).

Man!!! Im right there with ya.  Ridiculous yearly 'subscription' fees.

I PAID $649 on april 9, and now I get a pop up saying I need to download the 2024 version to replace my "unsupported" 2022 version???????

August 1, 2024

I know where you're coming from, DanG4. Let me provide you with insights about the discontinuation of the QuickBooks Desktop 2022 version.

As of now, it is not necessary to update your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2022. However, it is important to note that the QBDT 2022 version will be discontinued after May 31, 2025, since the program has a three-year lifespan. This includes all versions of Pro, Premier, Mac, and Enterprise solutions.

If you won't upgrade to a higher version on or before May 31, 2025, access to live technical support will be cut off, and you won't receive the latest critical security patches and updates which are essential for maintaining the security and functionality of your software.

To avoid any disruption in service and to continue benefiting from the latest features and security updates, Intuit strongly recommends upgrading to the most recent version of QuickBooks Desktop before the discontinuation date. This proactive approach will ensure that your business operations remain smooth and secure.

Finally, I'm adding this article for detailed information about the QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.
