Quickbooks Desktop Payroll

Hello,

For QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, how do I add a client's company file to my payroll subscription?  I have an active service key; how do I add the client company to my payroll subscription so I can process payroll?

Whenever I try to do anything in the client's QuickBooks file payroll wise, it asks for prior bookkeeper's subscription info.  Do I have to ask for their info and change it to mine when I sign in?

I have QuickBooks 2022 Desktop Premiere Accountant Edition if that helps.

Thank you!

Hi @inspired8791.

Thank you for sharing the details to the Community. It's good to know that you have the latest QuickBooks Premier Accountant Edition 2022 version. Having a more recent version means a greater chance that the client's system is compatible with your current QuickBooks Desktop version.

To add a client's company file to your payroll subscription, you'll have to access the client's file to create a working file. This is to ensure that the contact information and payroll administrator for the payroll subscription will be the same for all companies you add to a single subscription.

In addition, make sure to update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release and take note that QuickBooks Desktop Payroll can only support one company data file per EIN.

Yes, you're correct that you will have to get your client's info so that the company file will be under your control when you sign in. This is when the company file already has the payroll service key. I'm adding this article as your reference for more information: Add an EIN to existing Payroll Subscription.

Furthermore, I've included some resources for more insightful details about managing your client's payroll moving forward:
