QuickBooks Desktop Plus Pro - Access After Subscription Ends

Hi,

We are transitioning to QBO soon, but our organization's founder would like to know that she has access to historical data in QuickBooks Desktop Plus Pro 2024 after the subscription ends.

I understand Intuit's policy for View-Only Mode for 1 year and that appears to apply to our product. Does View Only allow for viewing individual historical transactions, or just reports?

If we don't renew, but decide that we do need full access to QuickBooks Desktop Plus Pro 2024 at a later date, can we renew then since we are an existing and not new customer? I know this wouldn't apply if the product is discontinued entirely.

I saw a recommendation to download the trial version of QBDT and open the company file in that as a solution that would work indefinitely. Is this correct? When the trial period expires, do you download another copy of the trial version and start again?

Anything I'm forgetting? The goal here is to have access to historical data indefinitely (or at least for a few years) after the subscription to QuickBooks Desktop Plus Pro 2024 lapses.

We're glad you're considering to transition into QuickBooks Online (QBO), @BellFinance. To handle the historical data in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), I'll share insights for this.

The View-only access mode allows you to view reports and also historical data but doesn't permit creating new entries. With this, you can still see your existing entries, but you won't be able to edit or add new ones.

Moreover, note that existing subscribers will not be affected by the stop-sell and will still be able to renew their subscriptions after September 30, 2024, to maintain full access to their QBDT software.

Furthermore, using a trial version of QBDT is also possible. If you download a trial version of QBDT and it expires, you can re-download it again. To avoid potential issues, refrain from registering your account to prevent being locked out.

You're not forgetting anything, @BellFinance. You can still access your historical data and reports with the two pieces of information I shared above.

That sounds like a terrible idea.

Pretty sure their ransomware policy involves everything, not just reports.

You should be able to renew then, but their support after 2027 will be questionable at best. People are already having difficulty getting into their actual standalone products when they are forced to change computers and reinstall the software, after a certain number of years have passed.

Thanks for your feedback, Fishing for Answers. I may be naive, but I'm not concerned about switching to QBO. I'm using the product already in a simulated environment to prepare (I've imported our company file twice now), and it's pretty straightforward. I have also only used QBDT for a short period of time, and while I think it's terrific, I don't have many notions about what accounting software should look like.

I'm most excited about not being tethered to the desktop version. That does not fit into my schedule well at all as a volunteer bookkeeper for a small nonprofit. I

You can use the trial version of QB Desktop Enterprise to access your historical data for good. You don't need to reinstall anything.
