Quickbooks is extremely slow for the second user that logs in

We're experiencing a very strange issue in Quickbooks where it is running extremely slow for the second users that logs in. We have Quickbooks Premier 2020 installed on a remote desktop server (Windows Server 2022 Standard). The first users that logs in have no issues and Quickbooks runs just fine. However, when the second user logs in, he/she experiences slowness issues where Quickbooks is extremely sluggish.

We have checked the hardware requirements and the server exceeds the minimum requirements of Quickbooks. We have also ensured that Quickbooks is up-to-date on version as well as having all the necessary patches. Running the diagnostic tool also return no errors as well.

Please let me know if you can assist. Thank you in advance for the assistance!

Welcome to the Community, NowITWorks.

If your computer meets each of our system requirements and you're still experiencing performance issues, you may want to increase its available RAM.

To identify the amount of RAM you'll need for QuickBooks, multiply your file's size in GB by the number of users on your network. If a file's size is 500 MB (0.5 GB) and there's 6 users on its network, it will require 3 GB of RAM in the server it's running on.

In the event you continue encountering performance issues, you'll want to check your computer's virtual memory (VM) next.

Here's how:

  1. Increase virtual memory to 2 GB, plus 2 GB for each major application that's ran on the computer.
  2. Confirm VM is running on an internal hard drive.
  3. If your server has multiple internal drives, store data files on one drive and the VM on another drive.

If performance issues continue, you can also check for competing programs. These are apps that run at the same time as QuickBooks. Each program requires RAM and processor capacity.

You can review/manage your active programs in the Task Manager's Processes screen:

  1. Shutdown programs and processes not in use on your computer. This enables its operating system to assign more RAM to QuickBooks.
  2. In the event you can't shut down a program, move QuickBooks or the program that won't close to another computer.
  3. On some systems, there's too many programs that run on their Doman Servers for QuickBooks to run efficiently. You may want to move QuickBooks to another server in this case.

If the performance issues persist, try improving your RAM:

  1. Add memory chips. If your server has four sockets, and two of them have 1 GB DRAM chips, install two 1 GB DRAM chips in the empty sockets.
  2. Upgrade your memory chips by replacing 1 GB DRAM chips with 2 GB DRAM chips.
  3. Increase workstation RAM. Be aware of the operating system's limits on how much RAM it can support.

In the event you've upgraded your workstation and server's RAM, but you're still experiencing performance issues, you might want to upgrade the operating system.

I've also included a detailed resource about system requirements for QuickBooks which may come in handy moving forward: System requirements
