Removing a Client's QBO Account from a Bookkeeper's Accountant Account

Hello,

I have a client whose QuickBooks Online (QBO) account has been added under a bookkeeping firm's Online Accountant account. The client now wants to be removed from the bookkeeping firm's list and manage their QBO account independently.

Is it possible to separate the client’s account from the bookkeeping firm's list without losing any data?

If the bookkeeping firm removes the client’s account from their Online Accountant version, will the client’s company account be deleted permanently, or will they retain access to their QBO account separately?

I’d appreciate any guidance or solutions on how to handle this situation.

Thank you!

I can help you on how to remove your clients from the QuickBooks Online (QBO) Accountant, @marufalbk. You can permanently delete or remove your customer from your ProAdvisor discount plan. I'll discuss the details below.

If you're the primary admin for your QuickBooks Online Accountant firm, you can permanently delete the client. That way, you lose all access to their company and any work in features like Prep for taxes.

Here's how:

  1. If you're currently the primary admin for your client's company, make sure your customer assigns a new primary admin.
  2. If the client is part of your ProAdvisor discount plan, remove them from it. Your client gets full access to their accounts after they update their billing info.
  3. Sign in to QuickBooks Online Accountant as an admin.
  4. Select Clients.
  5. Find the client you want to delete and select their name.
  6. From the Edit client dropdown, select Delete permanently.
  7. Click Yes to confirm.

You can check out these articles for more details in deleting clients permanently and removing client from your ProAdvisor discount plan:

Additionally, I've added this article in case you want to utilize the split billing feature in QuickBooks to give you the flexibility to control over your clients billing options: Using split billing to manage client subscriptions in QuickBooks Online Accountant.

Feel free to reply in this thread if you have clarification about managing your clients in QuickBooks. I'm always here to help you.
