It's my pleasure to assist you today, jeanannea.

Let's do some tests to isolate this issue with an empty excel report after exporting from QuickBooks Online (QBO).

First, let's make sure to click the Enable Editing option for the Excel file. This will allow you to view the full content of the report.

I'll show you a sample screenshot below:

If the report stays empty, let's try updating your Excel app to the latest version. If you don't see the Update Options, this means you already have the latest version of Excel.

To do that:

  1. Open Excel and click Blank document.
  2. Choose File.
  3. Select Account.
  4. Click Update Options.
  5. Select Update Now and allow the updates to install.

You may also consider exporting your report as a PDF file. This way you can still be able to export your report and save it in a file folder.

I have some additional articles about managing a wide range of reports in QBO:

When exporting from QuickBooks desktop, it always opens up a blank Excel file I have to select "Do Not Save" on before it will export the file. I looked online and this seems to be a common issue. I was not able to find a fix to prevent the additional file from opening.

Hi there, @vangoth.

Thanks for taking the time to follow along with the thread and sharing your concerns.

Typically when this happens we notice issues with QuickBooks or Excel needing updates. Often times we've seen the issue being related to incorrect export settings, or potential compatibility problems between the two programs.

Let's start with some basic troubleshooting steps, such as updating your QuickBooks. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page and select the standard setup.
  2. From Select Country, choose your country.
  3. From Select Product, pick your product.
  4. From Select Version, click on your version (year).
  5. Hit Search.
  6. Select Get the latest updates. When the download finishes, open the file to install the update.
  7. When the installation finishes, follow the on-screen instructions.

Once the update has been completed, try exporting again. If you continue to have issues, I recommend running through the troubleshooting steps included in this help guide: Fix export to Excel issues in QuickBooks Desktop

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'm happy to lend a hand. Have a good one!
